Overview of the inContext Project

The inContext project is aimed at developing a novel scientific approach to the problem of enabling diverse individual knowledge workers in separate organisations to work in effective team collaboration with one another. The end result of the research will emphasise P2P collaboration software capabilities.

About

WP0 - Description of work:

This work package is aimed strategic project management including project meetings, project internal reviews, strategic discussions and coordination among partners. The basic aim of this work package is to keep the correct project dynamics by setting the appropriate mechanisms to achieve the objectives. It will work to ensure the successful completion of the project by interacting with all the other WPs, not only in terms of tasks and deadlines fulfillment but also in terms of quality of results.

Workpackage 0 Leader Schahram Dustdar (TUV)

WP1 - Description of work:

Due to their dynamic nature, human interactions and pervasive collaboration services and their teamwork interactions cannot be modelled in advance but rather enacted on the fly. Intra- and inter team interaction models are developed by analysing underlying interactions, coordination contracts, and their emerging patterns.

Workpackage 0 Leader Schahram Dustdar (TUV)

WP2 - Description of work:

Collaborative environments offer their services for a large number of users and deal with massive numbers of contextual information. A context model, to represent various contextual data with a well-defined meaning acquired from different user interactions and services forms a basis for higher level tasks such as context learning and coupling.

Workpackage 2 Leader Stephan Reiff-Marganiec (ULEICES)

WP3 - Description of work:

Prospective service infrastructures are required to allow for self-configuring aggregation of services into composite services. This WP will focus on techniques and solutions for aggregating and provisioning of context-based services.

Workpackage 3 Leader Marcel Tilly (EMIC)

WP4 - Description of work:

Individual contexts and team contexts provide opportunities for coupling. The goal is to identify the important aspects for collaborative knowledge workers in M/N/V teams. This WP provides the foundation for (a) learning from context settings, (b) tight or loose coupling of contexts with time or location constraints, and (c) enriching the overall process context by combinations of individual and team contexts.

Workpackage 4 Leader Stefan Decker (DERI)

WP5 - Description of work:

New working styles and collaboration for distributed and mobile knowledge workers need a lightweight ecollaboration software infrastructure which can easily be utilized on multiple device categories. This WP will specify, design, and implement a Pervasive Collaboration Services Architecture (PCSA) to support dynamic relationships for Nimble/Virtual/Nomadic team members and their collaboration services. The PCSA will integrate the various components and solutions developed in WP1, WP2, WP3 and WP4.

Workpackage 5 Leader SOFTECO SISMAT (SOFT)

WP6 - Description of work:

This WP is aimed at the dissemination of the project achievements and at the preparation of the future exploitation of the outcomes. Special attention will be paid to knowledge protection to allow wide dissemination of the results without prejudice for exploitation and scientific interests.

Within the activity there will be scope for the whole duration of the project to continually monitor the market, with the aim to orientate developments and to profit from potential exploitation opportunities. Project awareness will be achieved by publications and presentations at scientific conferences, publications in journals, and participation in workshops and scientific events.

A User Group will be established involving major European organisations in the field including groupware, workflow, knowledge management, project management and computer-supported cooperative work. A Web-site will be set up not only for the general dissemination of the project, the presentation of results and publication of all public deliverables and reports produced in the project, but also for liaison of inContext within the CWE community of projects and initiatives.

The web site will also feature a dedicated area, where interested external users can access the inContext-software toolkit and interactively try out and provide feedback on the prototype tools. A workshop will be held towards the end of the project (M29) for the dissemination and publication of the results to a wider community and for leading towards future exploitation.

The project consortium will plan for future exploitation as the project develops, elaborating a Technology Implementation and Business Plan (TIBP), which will be continuously updated as the technologies from the project become available.
